African Development Bank funds road infrastructure in Tanzania
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has decided to increase funding for the East African Road Network in Tanzania by $100 million (160 billion shillings) in the 2012-2013 fiscal year in an effort to boost the regional economy.
AfDB’s resident representative in Tanzania Tonia Kandiero announced the increase this month at a foundation stone ceremony for a 223-kilometre tarmac road linking Singida, Babati and Minjingu.

SCHLUMBERGER’S local expenditure is to grow by US$ 6 million next year following the company’s plans to increase it from $9m in 2012 to $15 m in 2013.
The company’s official plans show they would set out to engage with companies that support local businesses, and in so doing, to make a worthwhile contribution to the economy.
MSU uses $7.8 million grant to improve farming in Africa
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University researchers will use a $7.8 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help eight African nations improve their sustainable farming methods.
The grant, from the Gates Foundation Global Development Program, will be used to help guide policymaking efforts to intensify farming methods that meet agricultural needs while improving environmental quality in Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Ethiopia and Tanzania.
R8.3 Million Boost for Sustainable Agriculture
Nedbank has invested R8.3-million in conservation group WWF South Africa’s Sustainable Agriculture Programme, which aims to tackle food security challenges as well as protect natural resources in the country.
