World Bank Gives Sh3.4 Billion to Boost Private-Public Deals

THE World Bank has approved a Sh3.4 billion ($40 million) loan to Kenya to support public-private sector partnerships.

The amount was announced yesterday for the Infrastructure Finance Public-Private Partnership Project aimed to support Kenya to improve its enabling environment and generate bankable public-private partnership projects in transport and energy sectors.

Potato and Onion Scheme to Benefit Local Producers

An agreement is in place to provide additional marketing assurance to the local potato and onion industry. The Potato and Onion Scheme was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture,Water and Forestry in February 2012.

South Sudan to Resume Oil Production

Khartoum – The president of South Sudan Salva Kiir declared that his country’s oil production will be restarted next week after nearly a year of suspending it over a dispute with Khartoum on fees that should assessed for exporting the crude through the north’s pipelines.

Kiir made the announcement during a meeting he held today in Juba with visiting Kenyan deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta.

Spanish Firm Starts On SA Solar Projects

Spanish renewable energy group Abengoa announced on Tuesday that it has begun construction on two concentrated solar power projects in South Africa.

Abengoa will build a 50 MW solar power tower near Upington and a 100 MW parabolic trough solar power plant near Pofadder, both in South Africa’s semi-desert Northern Cape province.
