Tanzania: Addax Energy wins oil supply tender

GAPCO Tanzania Ltd emerged winner of tender to supply petroleum products for the month of February next year under the Bulk Procurement System (BPS).

This is the eighth tender since the introduction of BPS in January this year. Previously the tenders were being floated bimonthly but according to industrial watchers, this formulae had put local investors out of the business.

Climate data has helped African farmers boost production

Farming communities in Africa are benefitting from an exchange programme to improve access to, and understanding of, climate science, according to a report presented at a seminar.

The seminar, held in in Dakar, Senegal, last month (20-21 November), discussed the results of the programme – which encompassed two demonstration studies in Kenya and Senegal — and identified the opportunities and challenges faced in making better use of short-range forecasts and early-warning systems for flooding.

Mining shares give JSE a good nudge

Mining shares nudged the JSE all-share index up just after noon on Thursday‚ as the SA share market looked set to wrap up the year on solid ground.

At 12.35pm‚ the all share index was up 0.30% to 39‚306.75 points. Platinum stocks climbed 0.78% for a 12% gain this month‚ while resources have risen 0.63% on the day.

Nation Earns U.S.$305 Million From Extractive Industries

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania’s compliance with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which promotes greater transparency and accountability in managing oil, gas and mining sectors, is a milestone for the country’s economic growth prospects.

The World Bank said extractive industries contributed $305m to government revenues in the year ending June 30, 2010, up from $99m the previous year.
