Zambia’s Overseas Investments Grow

ZAMBIA’s portfolio investment abroad surged to US$3.5 million in 2011 as compared to US$0.1million the previous year.

The stock of portfolio equity investment assets abroad in the first quarter of 2012 was recorded at $3.39 million and slightly went up to $3.46 million in the second quarter of the year.

Bank of Zambia (BoZ) director-economics Emmanuel Mulenga Pamu said the Zambia’s portfolio investments abroad increased from $0.1 million in 2010 to $3.5 million in 2012.

Zimbabwe: Bidders Invited for Batoka Hydropower Plant

THE Zambezi River Authority has invited bids for the construction of a 1 600 megawatts hydro power plant at the Batoka Gorge, the authority said yesterday. ZRA, a statutory body jointly owned by Zimbabwe and Zambia and responsible for the Zambezi River, said the contract would be awarded on a Built, Operate and Transfer basis.

“ZRA hereby invites expressions of interest from interested companies or consortia with experience in developing hydro projects on a Build, Operate Transfer basis,” said ZRA.

Somalia: Banana Export Company Launched in Mogadishu

Mogadishu – In a further sign of return of hope and booming trade in a city not long time dubbed the world’s most dangerous city, a banana export company has been launched in Mogadishu Somalia’s capital city today.

The founders of the new company, Fruit Som say that their plan is to be an umbrella for all Somali farmers so that it can export Somalia’s banana to the outside world.

More Than One Million Tons of Agricultural Goods Produced in Uije

Uíge – At least 1.615.240 tons of products were cultivated during the 2011/2012 season in northern Uije province by 1,400 peasants.

This was announced on Tuesday here by the director of Agrarian Development Institute (IDA), in Uije, Miguel Mbemba Mata.
