Tanzania: Morogoro Coffee Farmers to Increase Output

Morogoro – MOROGORO has a huge potential of producing more coffee than Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions combined, thus attracting authorities to revamp the crop. The efforts have started to bear fruits as during the 2011/12 season almost half of 146 villages in Morogoro District were actively involved in coffee production, where 3,000 hectares were cultivated and some 155 tonnes harvested.

Nigeria: Agriculture Sector to Create 3.5 Million Jobs

President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland, hosted the first meeting of Nigeria’s new Eminent Persons Group (EPG). The newly formed group of influential global leaders will be expected to advise the President on actions to help achieve Nigeria’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda.

The group will also provide a global platform to encourage investment in the country’s agricultural sector.

FG Generates N9.953tn Revenue in 11 Months

The total federally collected revenue between January and November 2012 increased by 12 per cent to N9.953 trillion, compared to the N8.759 trillion estimated for the period, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said.

This, however, reflected a decline by 2.5 per cent over the level in the corresponding period of 2011.

The CBN disclosed this in its monthly economic report for November 2012, posted on its website Tuesday.
