Wealthy Gulf investors warm to Africa
Wealthy Gulf Arab companies are boosting their investment in Africa’s vast lands and untapped resources, marking a shift for investors who have traditionally directed their money towards assets in the United States and Europe.
One reason for the shift is negative: with government debt problems weighing on U.S. and European markets, those regions no longer look as attractive to some Gulf investors as they did just a few years ago.
Zimra launches solar powered systems
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority last week launched a solar system power supply at Nyamapanda Border Post to alleviate power shortages that delay customs clearance.
It is the first solar system power supply of its kind to be installed in the country. The system consists of 125 solar panels and an inverter with a capacity to produce 20KW.
Nigerian Offshore Oil and Gas Industry receives USTDA support
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is helping Nigeria meet the logistical and engineering needs of its emerging offshore oil and gas industry by providing a grant to support the development of an electronic management platform.
USTDA Director, Leocadia I Zak, signed the grant on Dec. 28, 2012, which was conferred to the Integrated Logistics Free Zone Enterprise (LiLE), a private sector logistics provider in Nigeria.
Tanzania: Digital TV Relay Launch Tonight
AS analogue transmission is officially switched off in Dar es Salaam effective today, service providers are working day and night to make sure other eight regions switch on to digital transmissions in the coming eight months.
The Deputy Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, Mr January Makamba, said in a brief statement that already companies licensed to supply the decoders have assured the government on the adequacy of the devices, while arrangements are afoot for more to be imported to meet the growing demand.
