Oromia to have a new agricultural processing industrial park:
Leaders of the Three Horn of Africa nations which included Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, and Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh inaugurated a new industrial park dominated by agricultural processing firms in the Oromia region in southwest Ethiopia.
The industrial park, spanning 51 hectares in the town of Jimma in the Oromia regional state, represents an investment of $61 million.
Oromia is the largest and the most populous region in Ethiopia.According to information made available at the inauguration,the park is set to open up a million job vacancies.
The PM’s chief of staff tweeted that the park is “an important addition to a network of world class, sustainable eco-industrial parks in Ethiopia ready for plug and play investment. Productive investments strengthen the base of our economy and generate sustainable jobs.â€
The industrial park would play a key role in creating economic integration with neighboring countries apart from its importance to the national economy. The industrial park will include agro-processing factories to utilize the rich agricultural produce cultivated.Ethiopia plans to build 30 industrial parks by 2025.
Ethiopia is buzzing in exploiting the agriculture sector resource for industrialization and increased export and the inauguration of this new park is a clear demonstration that Ethiopia is conducive for business and committed to economic development.
