Africa, the next big thing for global hotels

Africa is a continent with as diverse resources as the people. In the Northern hemisphere, there lies the deserts and drylands, many with oil reserves worth billions. West Africa has its share of oil, with Nigeria being one of the key producers in the world.
Subsaharan Africa, commonly known as ‘black Africa’, where Kenya and East Africa lie has just discovered huge oil reserves. This is Africa, rich in untapped resources, under-utilised lands, plenty of manpower, numerous feuds and as critics like to point out, plenty of sleep.
Why sleep? Well, with the potential that Africa has, why is it by far the poorest continent, contributing less than three percent to the global GDP? It is indeed a sleeping giant.

Invest in South Africa, double your money

"Those who invest in South Africa never go wrong, they double their investments. I give people the example of the Tatas," a minister from the country says.

Little wonder then that South Africa is the focus country for the second successive year at the ongoing India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2013.

"Tatas are everywhere in South Africa. They're doing so well, opening new outlets and growing their footprint," South African Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Elizabeth Thabethe, who is here for the IITF, told IANS in an interview.

"The Indian companies doing business in South Africa testify how easy it is to set up and then do business. We provide a variety of incentives to companies," Thabethe added.

Ghana's domestic lumber supply boosted with partnership scheme

Ghana is piloting an artisanal milling concept to increase domestic lumber supplies, combat illegal logging and promote sustainable forest management.

Tropenbos International Ghana is collaborating with its partners to build partnerships between artisanal milling groups and forest concession holders.

An initial agreement has been signed between millers in Sankore and Akrodie and a sawmill company, Logs and Lumber Limited (LLL) for supply of logs harvested in the Goaso Forest Reserve in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The Asunafo North Municipal Artisanal Millers Association is enthused at the initiative.
