THE Vice President Dr Mohamed Gharib Bilal is expected to inaugurate the DHL House, the company’s courier and transit facility, at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, in Dar es Salaam on Friday.

DHL Express Tanzania Managing Director Blaise De Souza said the modern courier and transit facility,

which has been built to international specifications and quality would help his company to achieve its goals of enhancing express delivery services (EDS) to customers.

“This facility will help us provide local businesses exporters and importers with vital reliable links to regional and international markets as well as supply chains. As you are aware, EDS are catalysts for trade and investment with enabler and multiplier effects for the wider socioeconomic development of a country.

EDS particularly benefits the modern, high value-added and export-focused businesses that are increasingly demanding ‘end-to-end’ solutions, ‘just-in-time’ services and accurate delivery information,” said Mr De Souza. The state of the art facility that will be a benchmark for DHL Express operations in East Africa and across the region was built by a Tanzanian contractor and construction materials bought from within the country will be a testimony on how investors can make good use of local experts in expanding their investments.

DHL Express serves 51 countries in Africa, operates 14 dedicated aircraft and approximately 300 daily commercial flights to serve customers in this region. “Investing in our network and infrastructure in this region is important for us as a company. We have invested in a Quality Control Centre in South Africa, a Spare Parts Logistics Centre in Nigeria, fleet upgrades and a new aircraft for Sub-Saharan Africa; and in Tanzania, a new stateof- the-art facility.

It is imperative that DHL continues to be an integral partner to Tanzania and this region’s economic growth through facilitating trade,” said Blaise De Souza, Managing Director, DHL Express Tanzania. According to Mr De Souza, DHL’s core business of the express delivery services (EDS) industry is the provision of value-added, door-todoor transport and delivery of next-day or expedited time-definite shipments, including urgent medicines, spare parts logistics, tender documents, parcels and merchandise goods.

DHL Tanzania was established in 1989 and continues as the market leader in the local and international air express business. DHL has been making an increasingly important contribution to the Tanzania economy by providing air express services to industry and commerce.

For over 20 years, the company has been providing international air express delivery services to industry and commerce, serving 120,000 destinations in more than 220 countries and territories. Over 99.9 per cent of DHL Express’ 120 employees are Tanzanian and together they serve 620 customers across a broad base of industry such as manufacturing, pharmaceutical, ICT, aviation, mining, gas, financial sector, hospitals, the media and others.
