Kitwe Firm Invests in Grain Bags Plant

A KITWE based firm Tikto Industries, has invested US$500,000 in the grain bag manufacturing plant at the Chambishi Multi Facility Zone (MFEZ).

Company general manager Peter Banda said his firm has since started the acquisition of the necessary raw materials for the project that would produce between 15 million bags per annum.

Mr Banda said the company had borrowed $49,000 from the bank which it used to procure equipment from China.

He said the company which is targeting the Democratic Republic of Congo market and the World Food Programme, expected that the equipment would arrive in a few weeks and commence production in the first week of July.

Mr Banda said the company would be producing five million bags per month with the first set of equipment but that in the next nine months, the company would bring in more equipment and increase production to 10 million bags.

"When we begin to produce 15 million grain bags we will be able to meet demand," Mr Banda said.

He appealed to the Government to make the people aware of the economic zones so that more can invest in them.
